Terms of sale

The terms on which Real Antiques sells pieces. Please read them before you buy; if anything is unclear, ask us — we would rather explain now than disagree later.

Last updated: October 2026.

1. Who we are

Real Antiques is a trading name of Aksan Enterprises, Bengaluru, Karnataka, India ("we", "us"). Our contact details are on the contact page.

2. How buying works

We sell by enquiry. There is no online checkout or online payment on this site. When you enquire about a piece — through its page, by email or on WhatsApp — we answer your questions and, if you wish to buy, confirm the price, any delivery charges and how to pay. A sale is agreed when we confirm it to you in writing (email or WhatsApp) and the piece is then reserved for you while payment is made within the time we agree. If payment is not received in that time, the piece may be offered to others.

Listings on this site are an invitation to enquire, not an offer that can be accepted online. Pieces are one of a kind: until a sale is confirmed, a piece may be sold to someone else.

3. Descriptions and photographs

We describe every piece honestly and as accurately as we can, including known faults, repairs and replaced parts. Photographs show the actual piece unless a listing says otherwise. Colours vary between screens, and pieces of this age show signs of use; wear consistent with age is part of a genuine antique and is not a fault unless the listing says the piece is free of it. If you would like more photographs or details before buying, ask us.

Unless a listing says a piece is in working order, please assume it is sold as a display piece. Vintage electrical items have not necessarily been rewired for modern use: have a qualified electrician check any such item before connecting it to the mains.

4. Our authenticity guarantee

Every piece we sell comes with a certificate of authenticity. We guarantee that the piece is genuine as described in its listing and certificate — that is, that it is of the type, maker, model and period we state. If, within the period set out in our returns policy, a piece is shown on reasonable evidence not to be as described in these respects, we will refund the price you paid as that policy explains.

The guarantee does not cover: dates given as approximate (for example "c. 1950s") where the piece falls reasonably within that description; the history of previous ownership, unless we have stated it; normal wear consistent with age; working condition beyond what the listing states; or any future value of the piece. See how we authenticate for the basis of our attributions.

5. Prices and currencies

Prices are set in Indian rupees (INR). Amounts shown in other currencies are approximate conversions for guidance only, based on European Central Bank reference rates, and may differ from the amount your bank charges. The amount payable is the INR price unless we agree otherwise in writing. Before you pay, we will confirm the total, including any applicable taxes, packing and delivery. Bank, transfer and currency-conversion charges are your responsibility.

6. Delivery and collection

We agree delivery with you for each sale. We pack every piece with care and send it by a tracked service, insured where available. The piece is at our risk until it is delivered to you, or until you or your carrier collect it. Collection from Bengaluru can be arranged by appointment. Delivery times given are estimates.

7. Pieces 100 years old or more

Under India's Antiquities and Art Treasures Act, 1972, objects that have been in existence for 100 years or more are antiquities, and their export from India is prohibited except by or under the authority of the Government of India. We therefore sell pieces that are, or may be, 100 years old or more for delivery within India only. These pieces are marked "Ships within India only". Please do not ask us to send such a piece abroad, and do not take it out of India yourself.

8. Buying from outside India

Collectors abroad are welcome. You are responsible for any import duties, taxes and customs charges in your country, and for checking that the piece can lawfully be imported there (some countries restrict certain materials or require particular safety standards for electrical goods). We will complete any export paperwork that is our responsibility.

9. Returns and refunds

Our returns policy forms part of these terms.

10. Our responsibility to you

If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breach, up to the price you paid for the piece. We are not responsible for indirect or unforeseeable loss. Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law does not allow it to be limited, including for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by our negligence.

11. Your legal rights

These terms do not affect your rights as a consumer under the law that applies to you, including India's Consumer Protection Act, 2019.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. If a dispute cannot be resolved by talking to us, the courts at Bengaluru will have jurisdiction, without affecting any right you have to bring a claim in your own country under its mandatory consumer laws.

13. Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The terms that apply to a sale are those published on the day the sale is confirmed.
